The Sky's the Limit

Ladakh may appear more Tibetan than Hindi but when traveling around the mountains you can do no better than in the saddle of an Indian Enfield motorcycle. The satisfying, deep thump of its one lung and lazy demeanor allows for plenty of time to take in the vast splendours of the Himalaya and local colour . . .

. . . Bouncing, yawing and winding out to Stakna Gompa, Chemrey and Hemis monastries, the bikes proved that 50 year old design and Indian technology forged a reliable combination and, as a final test of the humble Enfield, we decided the best thing was to ride them upward - point them toward Khardung La, the highest navigable road pass in the Himalaya.
